Large Leather ‘Strips’ Sofa by Cini Boeri for Arflex, 1968
Large leather ‘Strips’ sofa in very good condition. Designed by China Boeri in 1968 and manufactured by Arflex Italy. The main characteristic of this sofa is the loose removable quilted cover which reproduces the feel and look of a down filled cushion. The cover is made from a high quality anthracite leather which is in very good condition and it sits on a very low chromed base. The ’Strips’ sofa is one of the most famous products of Arflex. Designed in 1968, it was awarded the prize Compasso d’Oro and it is displayed in several museums in the world, like for example the Triennale in Milan and Tokyo, and the Moma in New York Born in 1924 in Milan, Cini Boeri is an award-winning industrial designer, architect, and interior designer. Along with Gae Aulenti, she was one of the few female Italian designers to enjoy international success in the postwar era. Her work has consistently underscored the psychological connection between humans and their environment.
